Last year, in first year, Mr. Crepe was my favorite restaurant. Never. I could walk in at any time of the day and not feel bad about eating a pancake filled with Nutella and whipped cream; Whether it was 8 a.m. or 8 p.m., a dessert crepe was always socially acceptable. After more than a year at Mr. Crepe’s on almost every trip to Davis Square, I can now say I’m experienced enough to make what to order a tough choice.
Coming back this fall, I was a little worried about how Mr. Crêpe would operate given the pandemic and COVID-19 protocols. However, on my first trip to Davis Square I was happy to see that Mr. Crepe had set up some fun outdoor seating and installed plexiglass dividers for their indoor seating. As I used their seats outside on a hot day, my favorite Mr. Pancake experience was over the Thanksgiving vacation.
Remember when Tufts graciously gave us UberEats credits to eat during the Thanksgiving break? (I mean, how can you forget when the Facebook group “Tufts Memes for Quirky Queens” was filled with bad credit memes?) Well I decided to use my credits for breakfast, well sure. I ended up ordering two sugar and butter pancakes and an iced coffee from Mr. Crepe while staying well under my $ 20 UberEats credit. Then, once the pancakes and coffee were delivered to my door, it was time to really polish my order. On a pancake, I added Nutella, berries and bananas that I had had at Carmichael Dining Center a few days earlier. On the other pancake I got really fancy and added some ricotta cheese (for which I was judged very harshly by my friends), blueberries and honey.
What do I order?
Salted crepes: The spinach, tomato and basil pancake with ricotta and an egg that’s too easy to prepare!
How I polish the menu: Honestly, after my little UberEats experience, I converted to pancake with sugar and butter. Adding tons of fruit and toppings adds up very quickly. I mean, adding banana slices on my pancake costs $ 1.70 … in the meantime I can take any toppings I want from Dewick or Carm and add them however I want to a simple pancake for just 3.95 $. Also, if I just want a little snack, a sugar and butter pancake is super good on its own!
What I want to try next: The crispy apple pancake which is a pancake with applesauce, toasted almonds, graham cracker crumbs and a scoop of ice cream!
